What is LINK Project?

LINK Project – Local Information News & Knowledge is an independent initiative by What the Finland Ry dedicated to making life in Vaasa easier and more accessible for immigrants and newcomers. Our mission is simple: clear, practical information, tips, and guidance for anyone navigating Finnish society.

Many newcomers arrive in Vaasa with questions: What services are available? How do I access them? Where can I practice Finnish? How do I meet people? The LINK Project exists to answer these questions in a friendly, easy-to-understand way.

What we do

  • Provide clear information about services, programmes, and opportunities in Vaasa. From healthcare to public transport cards, student benefits, and community activities, we explain how to access what’s available.
  • Language support and practice opportunities. We host informal Finnish language meetups and conversation clubs, making learning approachable, fun, and practical.
  • Bridge the gap between newcomers and the city. We help identify gaps in information on official websites, advocate for multilingual resources, and facilitate communication between immigrants and city services.
  • Community engagement and events. LINK Project organizes open forums, discussion groups, and social events designed to bring newcomers and locals together, fostering mutual understanding and connection.

Why LINK Project exists

Living in a new country can be confusing, overwhelming, and isolating. Even when services exist, it’s often difficult to find accurate, up-to-date information. LINK Project exists to make that information accessible, understandable, and actionable, giving newcomers the tools to participate fully in society and feel valued in their new home.

Who runs LINK Project

LINK Project is a personal initiative led by Jordi Storm in collaboration with What the Finland Ry, an association committed to helping others navigate life in Vaasa. While this is a one-person project, it thrives through collaboration with local organizations, volunteers, and community members who share the mission of supporting newcomers.

Our vision

A Vaasa where everyone, regardless of background, can access the information and opportunities they need to thrive, feel included, and actively participate in society.
