Mielle Ry – MielenTuki Mental Support Project in Vaasa

What is it?

Mielle Ry is a Finnish nonprofit association that supports mental well-being and recovery through open, low-threshold activities, peer support, guidance, and community services. The MielenTuki project is a free mental support initiative offering conversational support, listening, guidance, and help for people facing stress, worries, or mental health challenges. It’s designed to be easy to access and judgment-free.

Who is it for?

Everyone living in or near Vaasa who needs mental support — regardless of age, background, or status.
You do not need a doctor’s referral, and support is usually anonymous and free of charge.

Where does it take place?

Mahis Community Space in central Vaasa (e.g., Läntinen Kasarmintori area), where MielenTuki sessions and drop-in support happen.

When can you go?

  • MielenTuki sessions usually have weekly times when you can just show up — no booking needed.
  • For example, sessions can be on Tue & Thu afternoons and Wed mornings (check the current schedule locally or online).

Why does the project exist?

Mental health challenges are common, especially during difficult life transitions — like moving to a new country, losing work, family stress, or isolation. MielenTuki offers a safe space to talk, feel heard, and get help before things feel overwhelming. It supports wellbeing and complements official health services.

How does it work?

1) Drop-in conversation support
You can walk in during the announced times — no appointment, referral, or fee needed. Conversations are confidential.

2) Guidance and referrals
The staff or volunteers can help you find next steps, like healthcare, peer groups, or other community resources.

3) Group activities & connection
You may also find informal group meet-ups, peer support, and social activities that help people connect and reduce loneliness.
